The first pedestrian bridge across the Pearl River in Guangzhou, the first landmark building originally created by a local designer in the core section of the central axis of Guangzhou, is currently the widest and longest oblique-arch curved-beam pedestrian bridge in the world. The bridge was built by He Jingtang, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and chief architect of the South China University of Technology Architectural Design and Research Institute, setting the record for the world's largest span and widest oblique arch curved beam pedestrian bridge. The design concept of Haixin Bridge draws inspiration from the rich cultural heritage of Cantonese opera, the charm of Guangzhou Flower Boat, and the elegance of Lingnan Lyre.
